Springtime Adventures in North Texas: Festivals, Flowers, and Outdoor Fun

There’s something special about spring in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. The days are growing longer and sunny afternoons area always a delight. Before you know it the landscape is alive with color as plants wake back up. Wildflowers in open fields everywhere you can see, festivals almost every weekend in nearly every town, and the urge to spend every more time outdoors becomes impossible to ignore.

If you’ve been itching to get out and explore, this season offers no shortage of incredible things to do. Whether you like to stroll in  bluebonnet fields, diving into local arts and culture events or simply looking for an excuse to enjoy the sunshine, here are some of the fun things you can do in DFW.

Bluebonnet Season in Ennis: The Ultimate Texas Road Trip

Ask any Texan, and they’ll tell you—spring isn’t complete without a drive through bluebonnet country. And there’s no better place to do it than Ennis, Texas, with their famous Ennis Bluebonnet Trails.

From April 11–13, 2025 the town opens up more than 40 miles of scenic roads, where rolling hills are blanketed in wildflowers, especially bluebonnets. It’s one of those bucket-list experiences that is a joy every single year. After you finish driving through the country stick around for the festival as the whole thing into a celebration, with live music, arts and crafts, and plenty of local food vendors. If you’re hoping to capture that perfect Instagram shot surrounded by flowers, this is your chance.

Fort Worth’s Main Street Arts Festival: Where Creativity Takes Over the City

For four days in April (April 10–13, 2025), downtown Fort Worth transforms into an outdoor art studio where artists from around the country show their work. The Main Street Arts Festival is one of the largest and most prestigious arts festivals in the country, bringing together more than 200 artists from across the U.S.

Even if you’re not an art collector, this festival is worth checking out. There’s live music on multiple stages, an entire street dedicated to mouthwatering festival food such as gourmet tacos, BBQ,, funnel cakes and desserts, and a laid-back atmosphere that makes it easy to spend an entire day wandering from booth to booth.

The Scarborough Renaissance Festival: Where History and Fantasy Collide

Whether you have wanted to step into a storybook, cosplay as knight or just enjoy turkey legs and mead, Scarborough Renaissance Festival is the place to do it. Held in Waxahachie every weekend from April 5 to May 26, 2025, this festival feels like a portal to another time. With different themed weekends from Celtic, Knights and even Pirates, you will find the weekend that is right for you.

From knights in shining armour to wandering bards, the whole experience is completely immersive. You can feast on different food such as meat pies while watching a jousting tournament, browse handcrafted leather armour and even see the wares of real blacksmiths and artisans. Or, you can simply people-watch—because the costumes alone are always amazing to see. Whether you're a history buff or just looking for a unique way to spend a weekend, this festival is a spring tradition that never disappoints.

More Spring Adventures: Tulip Fields, Baseball, and the Great Outdoors

Of course, not every spring outing has to be a major festival. Often, the best moments come from the simple joys of the season.

For a peaceful escape, head to Texas Tulips in Pilot Point. This family-owned farm turns into a sea of color every spring, offering the chance to stroll through the fields and pick your own bouquet. They haven’t announced their exact 2025 dates yet, but by social media the farm is expecting to open by Mid March and run to nearly the end of April.

If you’re a baseball fan, spring also means one thing—the return of America’s favorite pastime. The Texas Rangers kick off their season on March 27th at Globe Life Park, offering an affordable and family-friendly way to enjoy a game.

And let’s not forget about the natural beauty that makes North Texas special. Whether it’s hiking through Cedar Ridge Preserve, kayaking at White Rock Lake, or taking a weekend trip to Lake Grapevine, spring is the perfect time to reconnect with nature before the summer heat settles in.

Plan Your Perfect Spring Getaway

With so many events and outdoor activities, spring in North Texas is an invitation to get out and explore. Whether you're admiring bluebonnets, diving into local arts and culture, or just soaking up the sunshine, this season is full of unforgettable experiences.
